PI Xls Overview

About PI Xls Designer

PI Xls Designer is a spreadsheet based application that gives the power supply designer more control during the design process. PI Xls Designer takes input, output and all other necessary design specifications and preforms all the necessary calculations to design and evaluate a power conversion solution using Power Integration's ICs. Please see the Introduction topic in PI Expert Suite for a complete list of support devices and topologies in PI Xls Designer.

PI Xls Designer includes some automated transformer construction features along with complete transformer construction documentation. PI Xls Designer also includes a Goal Seek function that helps in fine tuning a design and reverse engineering existing designs.

Please see each device's respective Application Note for more information on how PI Xls Designer can be utilized to help you design a supply with the selected device and topology.

File menu

Action

Description

New

Creates a new power supply design file.

File Manager

Opens File Manager.

Open...

Opens an existing design.

Close

Closes the current design.

Save

Saves the current design.

Save As...

Allows you to save the current design with a different file name or in a different location.

Export...

Allows you to export design results in different formats: MS Excel (.xls), RTF (.rtf), PDF (.pdf) and Enhanced Metafile (*.emf).

Export all to PDF

Allows you to export all Design Results tabs including Error and Warning Messages at once in PDF file format.

Print

Prints the design results.

Performs the last undo action again.

PIXls Designer

PIXls Designer - Opens the PIXls Designer tab of the design spreadsheet.  

PIXls Charts

PIXls Charts - Opens the PIXls charts.

Transformer Parameters

Transformer Parameters - Opens the Transformer Parameters tab of the design spreadsheet.

Transformer Construction

Transformer Construction - Opens the Transformer Construction tab of the design spreadsheet.

Active Design menu

Action

Description

Transformer

Transformer - Opens Core and Bobbin and Requirements and Test forms.

Winding Construction

Winding Construction - Opens Primary and Bias, Secondaries, Shields, Materials, Comments and Pin Allocation design forms.

Audit

Audit - Opens Audit window.

Recalculate

 Recalculate - Discards user input and starts Transformer Design recalculation based on the spreadsheet.

Goal Seek - Starts PI Xls Designer Goal Seek function.

Preferences...

Preferences - Allows you to specify PIXls Designer preferences.
