Goal Seek Function

To perform fine-tuning and reverse engineering of the operating parameters use the Goal Seek function. This function allows to get a specific result for a design parameter by adjusting the value of one other parameter.

Note: The Goal Seek function is recommended for advanced PI Expert users only. See Application Notes AN-18, AN-32, AN-25, AN-4 and AN-41 for details of the design algorithms PI Expert uses.

Working with the Goal Seek Function

To fine-tune a design:

  1. Proceed with the design as usual.

  2. When the design is complete, select Goal Seek from the Tools menu. This will launch the Goal Seek function dialog.

Note: You must have prior knowledge of the parametric relationships in your design to successfully use the Goal Seek function.

  1. In the Parameter Name to Set list select the desired parameter, which must be a dependent (calculated) variable.

  2. In the Parameter Target Value box, type the value you wish to obtain (the desired value of the dependent variable).

  3. In the By Parameter Name list, select the name of the parameter you want to modify, which is the independent (input) variable modified to reach the desired value of the dependent variable.

  1. Click OK to start fine-tuning.
