Input Rectifiers and Safety Components

Use the Input Rectifiers and Safety Components form to review the input diodes scheme. PI Expert constructs rectifiers configuration automatically when creating a design.

Updating Rectifier and Fuse Parameters

For input rectifier you can change the diodes configuration. Click the calculator icon on the right of the Type box. You can select Diodes set or Bridge value. The icon indicates that a custom parameter value has been entered.

You can change the automatically selected rectifier for a created design by selecting another one from the Diodes Library. To replace the rectifier click the black down arrow control on the right of the calculator icon and select Change. In the Input Diode dialog box, select the diode you want to add. Click OK. The diode is now replaced. The icon indicates that the custom selected diode is chosen. To restore the default diode click the black down arrow control on the right of the icon and click Default.

For fuse you can change the automatically selected fuse type. Click the calculator icon on the right of the Type box. Depending on the product family used you can select Fuse, Fuse and Thermistor or Fusible Resistor. The icon indicates that a custom parameter value has been entered.

You can change the fuse components by selecting another one from the Fuses Library, Thermistors Library,

Updating Surge Protection Parameters

It is also possible to add or modify Surge Protection components. Depending on the safety standard selection (see Safety and Thermal) the software will automatically select a Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV), however the user can manually override the selection.

Some families will allow the user to add an additional layer of surge protection that consists of two Transient Voltage Suppressor diodes in series.

To use MOV select the Use Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) check box. To change the automatically selected varistor click the calculator icon in the component box and select Change to access the Varistors Library. The icon indicates that a custom parameter value has been entered.

To use surge protection clamp select the Use Surge Protection Clamp check box. To change each of the automatically selected zeners click the calculator icon in the component box and select Change to access the Zeners Library. The icon indicates that a custom parameter value has been entered.
