The Heatsink library is one of the component library types within the Component Library included in PI Expert. Once a heatsink is added to the library and included in a Component Set, you can manually choose your own heatsink to be used where applicable. Heatsinks are typically used for the primary side switching device as well as for the secondary side diode. Custom heatsinks are typically made out of sheets of Aluminium or steel and are not listed in the library. Only standard Aluminium extruded heatsinks are included in the library. Only TO220 compatible heatsinks are listed in the library by default and they work for TO220 as well as eSIP packages.
PI Expert does not allow you to modify or delete the default components. You can only view the parameters of a selected component type by clicking the View button. You can add custom components to the Component Library by clicking the Add button in the Component Library dialog where you can input all relevant specifications for a particular component. See the Component Library topic for more information on adding and editing components.
To add a heatsink you can specify the following parameters
Heatsink Type – The default is Aluminium Extruded
Thermal Resistance – Specified thermal resistance of heatsink
Heatsink Height – Height dimension from datasheet
Part Number – Manufacturer part number
Manufacturer – Name of Manufacturer
Package – The package for which the heatsink was designed (TO220 by default)
