The D package: SO8 package has 8 pins and SO-8C has 7 pins. One pin is removed to allow for increased creepage distance to Drain pin.
The eSIP (E) package has the same low thermal impedance as the traditional TO-220, yet it's only half the height.
The KG and VG packages are new low profile packages from Power Integrations. The VG package is a DIP package like P package and the KG package is a surface mount package with exposed tab to allow for additional heat-sinking by soldering the tab to the PCB.
The L package is similar to the E package with bent leads to allow for parallel mounting of device to the PCB.
The M package is a plastic, 10-pin DIP with pin 4 or 7 missing (depending on the device family)
The P package is a plastic, 8-pin DIP with pin 3 or 6 missing (depending on the device family)
The G package is a surface mount version of the P package.
The Y package is a 7-pin, TO-220 style (with pin 6 missing), that has preformed leads for ease of assembly.
The F package is similar to the Y package, except that the tab is shorter and has no mounting hole in it.
The R package is a surface mount version of the F package.
The C package - see inSOP-24D.
"N" denotes a lead-free package. “G” denotes a Halogen free package. The latest information about packages may be found online at Power Integrations' web site.
Frequency – Allows you to choose the switching frequency for those device families (TOPSwitch-JX, TOPSwitch-HX, TOPSwitch-GX and DPA-Switch) and package combinations that have a selectable switching frequency. The choices for the TOPSwitch-JX, TOPSwitch-HX and TOPSwitch-GX are 66 kHz and 132 kHz. Choose 132 kHz for the smallest magnetics design. Choose 66 kHz for lower switching losses and higher efficiency. Larger magnetics, however, can be necessary to deliver the specified output power. The choices for the DPA-Switch are 300 kHz and 400 kHz.
Breakdown voltage – Specify Device Drain to Source Breakdown Voltage.
Enclosure – Specify whether the design will be used as open frame or adapter. If open frame enclosure is chosen air is free to flow and cool the part, allowing for maximum power delivery from a given part. Choosing adapter for the enclosure means that the software will choose a larger device because an adapter is sealed and does not allow free convection. For LED lighting the option Lamp Retrofit replaces the option Adapter. This option should be used for designs that will be incandescent lamp retrofits or designs where the ambient temperature is high and/or space for heat sinking is minimal.
Charger Mode – Only for InnoSwitch3-CP and InnoSwitch3-Pro three options are available to the user:
USB PD
USB PD + PPS
Custom Rapid Charger
The three different modes identify the type of application the power supply is meant for:
USB PD application must be chosen if the goal is to design a power supply which is fully compliant with the USB PD standard. PI Expert automatically applies sets of rules to help the user designing a power supply which complies with the limits imposed by Standard.
USB PD + PPS application must be chosen if the goal is to design a programmable power supply which is compliant with the USB PD standard. PI Expert automatically applies sets of rules to help the user designing a power supply which complies with the limits imposed by the Standard.
Note: The USB PD specification undergoes frequent changes. Review the standard to ensure that the design choices follow the updated requirements.
Custom Rapid Charger application must be chosen if the objective is to design a rapid charger compliant to other protocols.
Bus Switch Network type
Only for Inno3-CP and InnoSwitch3-Pro the user may decide to include or not to include the bus switch in the design.
It is important to notice that for USB PD and USB PD + PPS applications, the bus switch is always required unless it is a single output design with captive cable.
Once the design is created PI Expert give the user the ability to change the bus switch type at a later stage through the Bus Switch Components dialog..

Feedback – When creating a new design, PI Expert selects a feedback type based on the specified PI product family. Some feedback types require a bias winding:

For the devices with optional bias winding, you can turn the bias winding on by selecting the Use Bias check box. For the devices with required bias winding, the Use Bias check box is grayed out. Using a bias winding when it is optional typically reduces the amount of no-load power the design will consume.
After specifying options click Next to move to the next Wizard screen.
